Economic center

The employment opportunities available in this exciting city are numerous and varied, with a huge amount of multinational corporations and thriving industry. The advent of ASEAN will inevitably further increase these prospects. Bangkok is also a center for commerce and is Southeast Asia’s key logistics hub.

Culturally diverse

Bangkok is one of the most visited cities in the world. It is a place where traditional Thai living is juxtaposed with multicultural urban lifestyles.

Education – international yet affordable

Bangkok is an affordable and easy place to live, with great food and friendly people. It is obvious

why so many have picked the city for their studies.

International students doing a Bachelor’s Degree will study at our Rama 9 campus, near Hua Mark Airport Rail Link station, which provides easy and convenient access to Bangkok city center.

Students doing a Master’s Degree can choose to study the part time Signature MBA program at our Rama 9 campus, or study at the Asoke Learning Center, which has a variety of study modes, class times, and delivery options such as blended learning – a mix of classroom and online study.

Make sure you purchase a ticket to Bangkok in advance. If you are using the university airport pick up service and/or stay in one of the student accommodations, flight details need to be submitted to student services no less than 10 days before arrival.

Visa

Before you enter Thailand, you need to have obtained a student visa (non-immigrant ED visa). The visa should be attached to one of the pages in your passport.

Accommodation

We advise you to have accommodation settled, or at least planned, before departure. Students can arrange housing by themselves or contact Student Services Office for assistance.

Documents

Other than passport and visa, students should bring with them original copies of any documents used in the application procedure.

Cash

When leaving the airport in Bangkok, you should have a sufficient amount of local currency (Thai baht). If you cannot exchange money in the country of departure, you can exchange at the airport in Bangkok.

*Please note that student accommodations (and most other accommodations) require cash deposits and upfront payments

The average cost of a standard apartment room starts at approximately 150 USD per month. All rooms have a private bathroom, air-conditioning and are fully furnished. Sport facilities (swimming pool & fitness gym) are available in some residencies. Electricity and water bills are on top of the basic rent on a monthly basis and average 35 USD per month. Internet service is on average 12 – 14 USD per month. Water vending machines and coin-operated laundry are also available in every residency.

Accommodation reservation process

After admission, students have to contact Student Services Office (SSO), which will provide detailed information on the availability and prices of the residences. Students must inform the SSO about their arrival date and preferred accommodation at least 10 days in advance or no later than the specified due date in the Arrival Form that will be sent to you by a SSO Officer. *Please note that SSO cannot guarantee accommodation to students who give us short notice or have not made a reservation in advance.

Terms of payment

A two or three-month refundable deposit is normally charged for the first payment. All payments are to be made directly at the apartment on arrival. Please prepare cash in Thai Baht for the first payment (you can exchange the money at the airport at the arrival area). Some apartments require a 1 month reservation deposit which you have to transfer to the apartment directly. Stamford International University will not accept any payment for housing.

Airport transfer service

The University provides a free airport transfer service on the week before the start of the semester for new international students who will stay in university housing. Student counselors and Student Life will provide more details prior to the intake date.

Upon arrival, our SSO officer or fellow students will be present at the airport to welcome and accompany you to the housing. This assistance is provided at both airports; Suvarnabhumi airport and Don Mueng airport.

Public transportation

Students who will not be arriving during our pick up period before the semester starts can use the following means of transportation (from Suvarnabhumi airport):

Public taxi – contact the public taxi counter on the 1st floor. Fare is calculated according to distance plus 50 baht surcharge and toll.

Airport Rail Link (sky train) – take the train on the B floor

Limousine – Contact the Airport Limousine Service Counter on the 2nd Floor at Baggage Claims and Arrival Hall exits, channel A, B and C. Service rate is according to the distance traveled.

*Please note that any request received less than 10 days before arrival cannot be confirmed for the airport transfer and accommodation reservation services.

They need to apply for visa at their local embassy/consulate which will initially be for 3 months only. All 3-month visas will be extended by the University visa officer after all requirements are completed.

Upon arrival or during orientation, you would need to get in touch with the university’s visa officer to understand visa matters and what needs to be done. All students need to understand that their passports and visas are their own responsibility. They will be liable for missed deadlines, fines and corresponding visa fees and should also be aware that their study visa can be revoked if rules are not followed.

*According to the Immigration regulations, an international student intending to study in Thailand has to apply for a Student Visa, otherwise known as a Non-Immigrant ‘ED’ Visa through a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate located in his/her home country. Normally, a student visa application takes 2 working days for approval from the authorities and requires a Letter of Certification from STIU before an applicant is granted one.

The cost of living in Bangkok is very low compared to the U.S. While studying, you will receive a housing allowance of approximately $1,300 (45,000 Baht). This will allow you to maintain and enjoy a fairly high standard of living in Bangkok, whereas your lifestyle would be quite limited in the U.S.
